Learn to ride aside, and lease a saddle that fits you and your horse.
People assume a sidesaddle is a stunt. It is not. It is a different seat with its own logic, and once the balance clicks, a good horse in a well fitted saddle is remarkably secure. The first lesson is on the flat, at the walk, mostly spent convincing your right leg to quit hunting for a stirrup that is not there.
Lessons are on your own horse or on one of mine. We start on the flat, move to the trot and canter when the seat is solid, and go to the hunt field when you are ready and not one day sooner.
Sidesaddles are expensive, and buying one before you know your seat is a good way to end up with a beautiful piece of furniture. Leasing lets you ride aside on a saddle that actually fits your horse, and gives you time to find out whether you love it.
Fit comes first. Bring your horse, or send me photographs and a wither tracing, and we will sort out what will work before any money changes hands.
Lessons are given by appointment, one rider at a time, so that the horse and the saddle and the hour all suit you. Write to me with what you ride at home and what you are hoping to do aside, and we will find a date. Saddle leases are priced by the length of the lease and the fitting your horse needs; ask, and I will quote you.
Lessons cancelled less than twenty four hours ahead are charged in full. Every rider signs a release before mounting.
